Here’s an instant upgrade to the sound of your bass. Everyone always concentrates on the same three things when trying to improve tone – strings, bridge, soundpost. All true, but there’s one more piece to the puzzle that’s usually overlooked. Whaddaya got holding your strings on?

Dave spent almost two years dealing with our supplier to get this tailpiece right. After we experimented with everything we could get – ebony, rosewood, maple, cast aluminum – we realized that it wasn’t just the type of wood that mattered, it was also the mass. We found that extremely lightweight Indian rosewood produced the best tone and sustain.

Then we talked to players, builders, bass geeks and sound engineers and found that they all agreed.

So we modified the Hill-style design to give it a more graceful curve and lighter weight and dropped the old useless “keyhole” string slots. Instead, we drill gauged holes at a 30 degree angle to increase strength and reduce strain on the strings – especially important if you play gut or synthetic. If you’re still using that massive old chunk of whatever that came with your bass, give this a try. You’ll be amazed at the difference.
